Astraea sp. snails (often referred to as Astrea snails) range in diameter from about the size of a nickel to almost the size of a quarter. These snails will consume film and hair algae on the glass and rocks in your aquarium.

These snails will consume:

• Film
• Certain Types of Cyano
• Hair Algae on glass and rock 

Astrea are not the hardiest snail, because they cannot right themselves if turned upside down. They should be placed carefully into your aquarium. Care should be taken if one got flipped over, you should act as quickly as possible to right them.

Astrea are not tolerante of high levels of nitrates in the aquarium.
