Precautions
Before you begin your water change, be sure you are using a bucket that has been selected for aquarium maintenance only. Using a bucket that has had cleaning solutions or soap in it at anytime can be fatal to your fish.
- Place your clean bucket near the aquarium and be sure the top of the bucket is below the bottom of the aquarium.
- Submerge the entire Hose and Gravel Tube into the aquarium water. Manipulate the unit so that all internal air escapes and the entire unit fills with water.
- Hold your thumb tightly over the end of the Hose so water does not escape. Lift the end of the Hose that you are holding out of the aquarium and lower it into the bucket.
- Remove your thumb from the end and water will begin to siphon from the aquarium.
- Immediately hold the Cylinder vertical and begin vacuuming the gravel using an up and down motion. Some gravel will rise into the Gravel Tube but will fall into place as the Gravel Tube is lifted. This process allows debris to separate from the gravel for easy removal.
- Refill your aquariums by filling your bucket with water that matches the temperature of your tank. WARNING! Adding water that is too hot or too cold can harm or even be fatal to your fish.
NOTE: Remove 10% of the water from your aquarium AT LEAST ONCE per month. Larger water changes MAY be harmful to your aquarium. If excessive debris is left in the gravel after you have performed your water change, more frequent water changes (twice monthly) may be needed.
